At a party held recently:

Chotu to me (slightly panicking): Amma, M cant find his achkan, and he is about to cry.

Me: He is trying to find his what?

Chotu(miffed at not eliciting expected panic reaction from me as well): Achkan amma, achkan.. come with me please.

Me: Goes along with chotu to where M is, who seems perfectly ok.

Chotu to M: M, did you find your achkan?

M: I did! and it’s not achkan silly, it is achan.

I tried hard not to burst out laughing but failed miserably, post which I had to put up with a very cross chotu for quite sometime.

PS 1: “Achkan” is Hindi for a long coat (something on the lines of a sherwani but not quite) and “Achan” is father in Malayalam.
PS 2: I think chotu is taking his Hindi learning a little too seriously :)
